A benchmark yirdaki by the great Terrence Gaypalani. This Yolngu alchemist turns living trees into sublime musical instruments. Gaypalani's impeccable selection of trees combined with his patient hand-crafting skills produce the most exhilarating instruments we know in Arnhem Land. He always starts the process with soaking his harvested logs in nearby creeks for several weeks, a technique he learnt from Don Dhakaliny which he says cures the wood, allows easier woodworking, and ensures each and every instrument is as good as it can be.

This yirdaki plays in the key of F with an F# overtone note. With faultless acoustics and beautiful mouthfeel, playing a Gaypalani yirdaki is as close to heaven as you'll get whilst on Earth.

  • What a lovely snake. And the glowing caramel color of the main part of the stick is also beautiful.
