David Arkush was practising as a dentist in 1939, when the Second World War broke out. He was soon called up to be an Army Dentist, and was posted to Singapore.
When Singapore fell, David was taken prisoner by the Japanese, and confined to the notorious Changi Prison Camp, where he practiced dentistry to his fellow prisoners under terrible conditions.
In this clip, David talks about his emotional return home in 1945, some three and a half years later and weighing just six stones (84 lbs).
He was 94 years old when interviewed here in 2007.
Contact Word of Mouth Films for more of David's interview.
