This is a segment showing "join-up" with your horse using the Equus model of a mare teaching her foal to stay at her side. No round pen is required! Marlis Amato demonstrates the translation using only a halter and lead line. This clip is part of "Equus as a Second Language", 2nd edition.

  • when he dipped his head down, did you poke him to get his head up again?

  • @BabaaNii

No,I didn't touch him. I simply lifted my hand to remind him to keep his head up - just as I did with the lead line in the previous scene. I established his space boundaries with the lead line, so if he put his head down, he hit pressure and then bounced off it himself. This was the same boundary in his mind, so just lifting my hand was enough to remind him to keep his head off the ground.

  • Awwww it's soo cute xD I never even thought a Mare would "train" her foal!? I figured they just followed, because they felt safe. A reason, but also bcuz they were "tought" to.

It's a nice piece of info to know :D

  • @jwmb224 So much. Its amazing. They may not talk verbally, but their body does it all for them. :)
