  • I am planning a hike through there soon. This hasn't been an urge till recently, we need to start being thankful for the small things in life. What would you advise for conditioning, I haven' t done this at such a large scale before.

  • @patriotim12 After being on the trail for two months I've realized that nothing can get you prepared enough for the trip. Everyone comes out thinking they know everything, or thinking they know nothing at all. We all are kind of clueless, but we all learn from each other. Physically, I still get dead tired going up hill, and my knees still hurt going down. Even though I'm in shape now and have lost thirty pounds since I've started, the pain and tiredness never leave.

  • You going by yourself....? or is the group going?

Last year I started as a Section Hiker.... I hiked from Springer Mnt - Hot Springs NC, 21days/275 miles.... I am from Louisville and will be starting back in June, Hot Springs - Pearisburg @ 4 weeks worth this year.... @ 400 miles

Good Luck, Hike steady and make sure you have hiking poles :o) they are a big help... Keep the pack weight down too....If you have questions drop me a line.

  • @GoCardsLou Thanks! My friend Mark and I will be starting March 26th. Yes, trekking poles are a lifesaver, plus I put my tarp up with them. Good luck on your section hike.

  • what trails did you take at the gorge? where did you start and end at? How many nights? Thanks

  • @EricsATAdventure I will just take a 7 day excursion. I would take the full trail if I had the time. Thanks for the response.

  • Looks like you fellas had a good time out there. Kentucky is a very scenic state with lots of great views. I have quite a bit of family out that way. Good luck on your thru hike of the AT. I myself can't wait to be out there on the trail in 2011. I am counting the days.
