How to do it? Watch the video!
If you don't want to watch the whole video, here's a quick breakdown.
Open up Adobe Premiere and import your pieces of footage, one for each part of the split screen. In this case, it was two pieces of footage. You will need to film these at exactly the same place in the same position, or the split screen will not work.
Then once they are imported, place one of the videos on the 'Video 1' timeline, and the other on the Video 2 timeline and so on so forth.
Go to Effects on the bottom left hand panel of the programme and go to Video Effects. Under the Transform drop down tab, there should be a 'Crop' function. Drag that onto the piece of footage you want to crop on or click on the video and then go to the Video Effects tab on the left video displaying panel and drag the Crop function onto the Video Effects tab.
Then on the Video Effects tab on the left video display, go to the Crop function you just dragged on and click on the arrow next to it, opening up the menu (the contents dropping down).
Go to the left or the right tab (whichever works in your case) and drag the cursor right, creating a splitting line to scroll across the shown video.
Do this subsequently with any other overlayed video footage, apart from the base video (bottom video).
That's it! You have made split screen and it should look good if you have filmed it correctly. If you have any off looking video, go the Video Effects tab on the left panel as before and go to the Motion function and increase or decrease the option accordingly. Also alter any lighting differences. If you have total trouble with the colouring, just turn everything black and white! It worked for other people, so why not? (although it is a bit of a cop out)
Thanks for watching and I hope this works for you!

Ok. i did it just as you said, all is well, i see a perfect split screen, however in the center of the screen where the two pieces of footage "collide" so to speak, there is a very fine vertical line seperating the two films. A dead give away! ive been fussing for hous. how on earth do i get rid of the crop line? I'm using Adobe Premier 7.0 ....ps... your hot.

@braedonis Hehe :P Thank you ;) Hmm... When you filmed it, did you put the camera on manual exposure?
