The quintessential tweed amp: Pete MacDonald takes the Beaufort for a test drive playing an ES-339.

Settings: Bright channel, Volume 2, Tone 7, pickup position #3 (Neck).

This is our replica of the 1957 Fender tweed 5E3 Deluxe amplifier. The amplifier in the video footage is our stock model with Celestion AlNiCo Blue speaker, Jensen copper foil capacitors and optional add-on reverb.

The guitar used is a Gibson ES 339 with custom 57 pickups.

  • The 339 is just a tad bigger than a LP, and significantly smaller than a 335. It's the perfect gtr. for someone that likes the feel and size of a LP but appreciates the sound of a 339. In my humble opinion, Gibson has hit a homerun here, not to mention they were smart enough to stock the 339 with Classic 57 pups.

Re: Q's. Yes "allot" more comfortable to hold sittin or standing than a 335, soundwise: depending on the pups sonically similar to the 335, feel: that's subjective.. cheers.

  • Great guitar the es339

  • @PF1964 very little, if any difference in sound -- built virtually the same, only 339 is smaller. the new memphis control apparently makes up for any difference in sound due to smaller body. Some think the 339 sounds bettter -- I have played many 335's and own a 339 and can honestly say the 339 does not sound better than the 335 -- maybe the same though

  • How loud was the amp in this setting in the room? It's a gorgeous tone.

  • Is this guitar more confortable to hold sitting than an ES335?

  • How different is the sound and feel of the es339 from the es335?

  • The neck P/U on that Gibson has impressive treble and clarity. The good folks at Clark are showing off!
