This painting is a reproduction/study of a piece by Jenny Saville, 16"x20". It's about a 3-4 hour painting that's for my painting II class. It's oil on canvas and I used mainly a palette knife to paint with. I used a really small brush for some details and also a large brush for some blending.

The video shows the process of producing the painting (the layers of underpaintings and the final painting).

  • the painting is well drawn, but its subject is the worst I've ever seen.

  • it's a reproduction that I made off of Jenny Saville, who is a great artist... her rendition of this painting is HUGE, like 10', and mine is only 16"... if you were educated about the artist you'd know what the subject matter represents and it's intention. She studies a lot of medical books and procedures on lipo, breast lifts, plastic surgery, dental work... all things grotesque that make pl "beautiful"

  • yes, I don't know the artist, I also have few knowledge about painting. I just said what I feel about the painting.

  • yeah, not everyone likes the "darker" or morbid subject matter and that ok. I was just explaining the subject matter to you so you know why I chose to paint it. there are lots of paintings that are great but I dislike the subject matter. do you have a favorite artist(s)?

  • wow. well done.

  • thanks!!

  • An under-painting different from the final layer. wow. Finished the painting in FOUR HOURS or SO?? WOWOOWOWOWOWWOW. I tried to do one of her paintings and I only arrived at a decent stage after eight hours. You are awesome. Also, I find copying an artist's painting is a great way to learn about painting. I only ever just wish that the finished product was truly my own. XD

  • jenny saville is amazing, it's all about morb I love it

  • It's a good painting in itself however I feel you have failed to capture the raw and brutal brush strokes Jenny employs in her work.

Good job none the less though.

  • I like the subject, and the painting itself is well executed. I like this a lot.

  • Excellent work, congratulations
