These days people think a handmade guitar should look machine made - so more time is spent polishing components and keeping the instrument free from any sign of imperfection than is sensible. A line of handmade guitars can end up looking as exciting as a line of tins in a supermarket. But this is what customers expect these days so as long as they are prepared to pay for the extra work, I do it. It does not make a better sounding or better playing guitar - just a shinier one. Beauty should occur by design but also by chance and the variation brought about by working by hand.
Rant over - This is how I prepare the back before glueing the struts onto it. Quite nice work really if you are listening to a bit of Roscoe Holcomb.

  • What's with all the strips? Is it a multipiece back? Go-decks rule! Ha ha!
