In memory of Ahmed Faraz, one of the greatest contemporary Urdu poets. Faraz sahib 25 August 2008 ko Allah ko pyare ho gaye.

A dove between India and Pakistan. In his latest double CD "Paigham-e-Muhabbat" composer Muzaffar Ali, who has brought so much pleasure to our lives over the last two decades, included O des aane wale bata' a nazm by Akhtar Sheerani & Ahmed Faraz, beautifully sung by Abida Parveen.

For those of us who migrated during Partition from India to Pakistan or vice versa and have memories of the old homeland. Also for many who have lived overseas, away from our birthplace for several years, and yet have a deep felt love and nostalgia for what was left behind, it strikes a cord.

  • Kya ub bhi awam vahan, jab bigrren bhag, azanen detei hen

Saylab thhaperrei marei to sab jag azanen detei hen

Kya ub bhi safed minaron sei nafrat ki munadi hoti hei

Dharti kei nasib ujarrtey hen jab nag azanen detei hen

Bulbul ko des nikala hei or zagh - O Zaghn sei yaraney

Hur samt chaman ki mundderon pur kag azanen detei hen

    Mahroom - E - Azan gar hen to faqt murghan - E - Khush ilhan - E - Vatan

E Des sei anei valei bata kis hal men hen yaran - E - Vatan.

  • Unfortunately there is indeed some truth in your words. However my hand is one of friendship with all. That is actually the spirit of Muzaffar Ali's production. The production "Paigham-e-Muhabbat" is meant a dove between India and Pakistan and all the various people of different races and faiths.

"Nafrat" is not spread by all. Furthermore, when someone makes an attempt to bring people closer, they deserve to be encouraged.

I see that you are a poet.

  • Han yeh saab kuch abhi bhi hotain hain,

    hotain hain,

they happen, all the little things that really make one happy, the beauty of the starry night, the moon shining on seaview beach, through the coconut fronds in homes that have them, the lovely orchards of bananas, cotton, mango, sugar cane all along from sind upto punjab, yes this land still has it all. Hearts big and open, still the same, still the same.

  • Thanks for the link bhai. Ms Abida and heart-full poetry. And as usual, your outstanding photographs!

AHmad Faraz, and a poem that speaks so much of loss and longing, but one can't go back; those memories only live on in your mind and heart...
