Not sure what you're getting at- some do. James, 2nd in these vids, is playing lead in the band right now, and Dave, playing 3rd in these vids, has played lead in the Two O'clock band before. The jazz players on the ends (Evan and Justin) don't play any lead though, but thats ok because they sound so good they don't have to

@levitrumpet This may be a couple years later, but didn't realize Justin Woodward was in this video. Justin is playing lead in Chicago now and tearing it up! Congrats on the Cirque gig too!

@JazzTrpt23 Justin is a good friend and great player but he's not in this video. Looking at the trumpet section I'm not even sure which one of us you would confuse with him, I mean we're all wearing shoes.

the lab band format at North Texas is based off the Kenton band with two bass. it really adds to the punch!

Then you should probably hear them in person. Any normal decent college band sounds like crap on camera. To sound like this on a low-quality video is stellar.

my senior year my jazz band got accepted to Midwest and we played a couple charts with Wayne and Andre Hayword. i'll never forget that experience, now i'm working my way at becoming a band director. it's amazing that these musicians can make such a huge impression on our lives!
