Thats not going to do anything when moving so fast. Either the bird gets decimated and still goes through the engine, or the whole mesh assembly will be pulled into the engine making even more of a mess.
I don't understand why they can't simply put wire mesh cones over the intakes.. Acting like a cow mover on trains to minimize sucking most of the bird into the engine.

Due to the air drag it wouldn't be reasonable, since the engines couldn't deploy their full potential...
