  • Thanks for posting. What a sad time. This was the death of Detroit. It has never recovered.

  • What a shame when a president of the U. S. have to declare the sending of federal troops to a state with a social disorder. These were the darkest times of our life. I hope we will never see such times like these ever again.

  • Is that Ramsey Clark and Robert McNamara in the background?

  • I don't think places like Birmingham, Atlanta, or Jackson would have let things get that out of hand.

  • @royaladam Yes it did. But L.A was able to recover after the deadly riots.

  • @macdogq,

It did happen again in Los Angeles. The Rodney King trail.

  • @JCGMich29

The same can be said of the riot in Newark, which occured before the riot in Detroit

  • Look at Detroit today it's still suffering from the effects of the 1967. Detroit 67 should serve as a reminder that this kind of Rioting must NEVER be allowed to happen again

  • I was in country in Naval Intelligence in 1965 and discovered we were not allowed to win the war. We could have won the war at any time but the directives from the White House were to perpetuate the war and every commander in that theater knew it. LBJ and his cronies were personally making millions off the US troops they were having killed. Honoring his memory in any way disgusts me.

Richard Nelson, USN, Vietnam combat veteran 1965/ 1966

  • Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act, and still they blame him for the way blacks behaved during the riots. They can do no wrong as they loot and burn a once great city and model for Industry and Innovation, that they themselves came to with open hands. Whats next?

  • Johnson only responded when the governor asked him to do so. This happens over and over again, 1992 L.A., New Orleans(Katrina), Alabama, on and on every where they go they leave devastation and human suffering in their wake. Baltimore, Philly, DC, Atlanta, Memphis all crime riddled. How long will the denial continue, and how long will they blame massa whitey?
