One of the red threads running through Take Today: The Executive as a Dropout (M. McLuhan, B. Nevitt, 1972) is about how electronic media are going to change the constituents of human society, and that, at one point in time, a group of 50-150 people would be considered as a society, which is incidentally the largest sustainable size for maximum efficiency with minimal conflict, cf. 30 individuals contribute to 30% of Linux kernel, less than 1% of the editors contribute to 50% of Wikipedia.
