Refuge Denied is the debut album by the band Sanctuary, who disbanded in 1991 (partially reforming as Nevermore).

This was the only album to feature extremely high pitched, layered vocals from vocalist Warrel Dane. It has been speculated that Dane injured himself in the making of Refuge Denied, due to the change in vocal style in his subsequent work.

It was produced by Megadeth vocalist and guitarist, Dave Mustaine.

"White Rabbit" is a cover version of a Jefferson Airplane song and Dave Mustaine performed the guitar solo on it.

Track listing:

1. "Battle Angels" (Sean Blosl, Dane) 4:30
2. "Termination Force" (Rutledge, Dane, Jim Sheppard) 3:49
3. "Die for My Sins" 3:37
4. "Soldiers of Steel" 5:24
5. "Sanctuary" 3:54
6. "White Rabbit" (Grace Slick) (Jefferson Airplane cover) 3:07
7. "Ascension to Destiny" 4:52
8. "The Third War" 3:47
9. "Veil of Disguise" 5:43

  • I wish I could have been in high school when you were. Metal was more popular back then; and when I say metal, I mean GOOD metal like this. Not this new Marilyn Manson bullshit. I was born in 90.

  • Dane announced they doing a new cd! Just read it on blabbermouth net

  • @Master0Shake Sorry bub but metal wasn't popular at all in the 80's or 90' for that matter..

  • @Master0Shake Marilyn Manson? He isn't that popular these days, and he isn't even metal, it's industrial rock. The kids who listen to metal these days listen to shitty metalcore, which is really sad because it's total garbage.

  • Those are some KILLER vocals! The new CD's got some tough vocals, to at the most, match.

  • Amazing song. Amazing album. That is all.

  • @TheGoldenPS1

I remember the Meliah Rage hype during the bidding war. Bought the album, but only ever thought it was okay.

  • this album is just too fuckin good to be popular i can taste this shit.

  • @TheGoldenPS1 Right on! Thanks for the info.

  • @Master0Shake Technically this band was a mix of Heavy/Power/Thrash Metal and not a straight thrash metal band like Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Overkill, Mortal Sin, etc, etc. The only straight metal band that was signed on Epic/CBS was Meliah Rage. And I disagree about thrash metal being the best of metal. I'm a bigger fan of the early power metal scene even though I like thrash metal as much as you do.

  • ascension to your destiny is drawing near. wow man his voice is so smooth great album man unreal.
