P.S. ...'at's still one helluvah find!

...need some insulation/furnace cement and/or fire-brick in there which should kick those temps up to a welding heat...with out one or both of these two elements the steel-box acts like a big heat-sink and'll keep drawing the heat out of the forges' chamber...

Can you explain how you built your nozzle for your burner. I want to build a small forge but cant seem to get my head around building the burner assembly.

is that flame keeper thing at the end of the burner just a smaller pipe or is there more?

I remember you posting pic's when you found the steel box, but don't recall seeing the completed project.
Good job, did you get the forge tunned up and running properly yet?

rock on man glad to see your forge. Killer!!!
Basically yes, aprox 3in long. It does need to be strait and centered. It can cause you to have a, for lack of better words, dirty flame if it is off. I have ran this for almost a year now and if I was to do it again, would have gone with a different design where I could attach a blower it. I never have been able to reach a consistent welding heat.

Thank you...
As a side note today I went out to use the forge and was keeping an eye on the gas pressure on my little gas grill propane tank. Labeled as an 15lb unit. I was unable to maintain a constant 5psi. The outside temp was about 50deg. f. I was only able to maintain 2-3psi. I was a little sad by this. Maybe I need another tank....
