Some basic drills on how to employ a shotgun in a fight - understanding your pattern and how to keep it loaded. Forget the myths of shotguns, don't depend on the racking noise to scare a bad-guy away and yes Virginia, you do have to aim..

  • Like this instruction. Additional instruction on how to carry extra rounds and do tactical reloads for us southpaws would help. Thanks for taking time and effort to post.

  • @KingfisherFarm I will admit to not having done it Southpaw nearly enough. If it is a lefty shotgun it would simply be a mirror image of what we are doing. Otherwise I would still prefer a side saddle but store the brass up and come over the top for the combat reload. any administrative reload will be a little slower that way (brass up) though. Get you some dummy rounds and figure out what works for you.

  • Any reason you using buckshot? Birdshot is better for home defense, no pellets going through into the next room and hitting things I dont want it to

  • @bloodvendetta Because buckshot is a much more reliable threat stopper. Any projectile that won't go through sheet rock certainly isn't gonna reliably stop an adult human being. Birdshot does not go much further than 2" into ballistic gel and will not penetrate bone. Research is out there, look it up. Birdshot is for shooting birds.

  • When I first decided to look at getting a main firearm I looked at a shotgun and nearly bought one. I wound up getting a WASR/10 and have not regretted the purchase. The only real issue I have with a shotgun is the lack of range with shot loaded at 12 yards even from inside a house is real close. Granted that can be corrected with slugs, but if shot is all you have available in a SHTF/or a non SHTF situation it leaves you at a tacital disadvantage. I still think a shotgun works for some folks.

  • @LAMOE2012 When "non-gun" people come to me and ask for suggestions, one of the first things I always bring up is the shotgun. It is low cost, easy to learn and very versatile. Inside a house or the average yard it is devistating, with slugs and practice it can reach a bit further and you can use birdshot to remove pests or hunt small game in a post SHTF environment. So if you are gonna be a one gun survivalist, the shotgun is hard to top.

  • @bloodvendetta Shooting someone in self defense is not Murder (in the US).

  • @bloodvendetta The rules of shooting dictate that you know your backstop and what lies behind it. Do not shoot in the first place if you arent competent enough to hit your target when you know someone might be in the line of fire.

There are tons of people who have been shot point blank with birdshot that kept fighting or werent stopped at all and easily got around to GTFO and live. So if someone can live through that and run, they can live through it and continue to kill you.

  • Great vid by the way!
