Another film of the successfull West Somerset Railway's Mixed Traction Weekend, this time a bonus! During Sunday 13th June the third and final day of the gala, the sceduled timetable had a range of services being double-headed. This gave me the opportunity to capture the full glory of Diesel Hydraulics working in pairs as havn't been done before in many years.

In this film captures all the four types of the hydraulic fleet working in pairs during the gala on various spots over the 20 mile branch. However the shots of D9520 & D9526 at Nethercott were taken on seperate days between the 12th and the 13th, so not to be confused.

Diesels covered in this film:

- Class 35 Hymek D7017 double heading with BR WR Large Prarie 4160

- Class 14's D9520 & D9526 double heading

- Class 52's D1010 'Western Campaigner' & D1062 'Western Courier' double heading

- Class 42 D821 'Greyhound' double heading with Class 35 Hymek D7017

Please note: all lineside spots were taken by permission of the WSR as I own a linesiders pass.

  • For me the sight and sound of not one but two maroon Westerns double heading is a joy to behold. Thanks for posting this wonderful piece Ryan.

  • Indeed a sight 'n sound of two Westerns working in pairs brings a joy to watch, the WSR put on a fine show with these hydraulics and never seen anything like it. Cheers again.

  • 1st class video - I was going to upload mine but yours will take some beating!

  • You can still upload yours, it might be just as good and people would still like to see yours.

  • Lovely mix of traction, it was a nice weekend and great to see D1010 working after many years ,

  • It was a sheer roar of a gala! Something we all did well out there. I too was pleased to see D1010 back in action. Another praise to the DEPG for restoring her.

  • Quality work. Well done and thanks for sharing

  • @Trainbrain1949

I think they usually run with a driver in each, since even if they can run in multiple, it saves time coupling/uncoupling at the end of each run.

  • Are these locomotives MU'd or do they have drivers in each locomotives?

  • Awesome footage! 5* and fav'd
