The famous dressage horse, Akhal-Teké 668 Absent, seen here in training. His greatest achievement was in 1960 when he won gold for the USSR at the Rome Olympics under Sergey Filatow and received the highest points of any dressage horse at the Olympics to date. Subsequently, he won bronze in 1964 at the Mexico Olympics and then team gold under Ivan Kalita in Tokyo, 1968. Apart from dressage, Absent also had an aptitude for jumping and is said he could jump 1m 70!

Though his breeding career was relatively short, he represents most of line Arab, the other sub branch being through Alam.

  • One doesn't see a piaffe like this nowadays. This is so relaxed, yet almost classically high without cramped movements or lots of tail swishing. I love to watch this (unfortunately shortish) video again and again.

  • Beautiful - I agree with MarinkaT79 - this is the perfect example of a piaffe. Relaxed, soft, gentle, as stated, without a lot of tension, aggravation, etc. And look at how Absent just glitters in the sunlight, even in black and white. Absolutely stunning. Horsemanship and horses at its finest. :)

  • Absent was used to help restore the Orlov Rostopchin breed in Russia, awesome stallion

  • The whole performance is incredable but when the newspaper blows under his forehand and he continues uneffected that isn't a Dressage horse it's a "Warhorse" trained as a dressage horse.
