Disease resistant animals, environmentally friendly livestock, pharmaceuticals produced by goats - are these really possible? With the help of biotechnology, scientists are discovering new ways to genetically engineer animals to not only help them become resistant to deadly diseases and reduce their carbon footprint, but also to produce proteins used in pharmaceuticals to treat blood clots, malaria, hemophilia, and arthritis. Dr. Targan explains how genetic engineering in animals works, as well as a few of the benefits that both animals and humans can appreciate.

  • We invented GE immortal fruit fly. Unfortunately they all escaped from our lab. What a loss to science and economy.

  • This is all BS, search Richard Stoner, Aeroponics, then search Omega Garden, combine those two technologies and you have indoor gardens in the desert using the bare minimum of water and nutrients to achieve superior growth, then using this you can terraform the desert, and eventually other planets, but they won't invest in mass production and lowering the costs, they'd rather play God and unleash genetic mutation than build something mechanical.

  • They don't even work, reports of insects overcoming the modifications are already coming in, it's a no brainer when you think of their numbers and their life cycles, they breed so fast they out mutate the poisons, however, we the slow breeding how many births do we need to get past them? With our rate declining this isn't looking good for the human race, maybe the mice, the humming birds and the rabbits.

  • People need to get educated and realize that life is way too similar to get sentimental over; after all, we share about half the genes as a damn vegetable! GE is evolution in fast forward, tailored to vastly improve our lives.

  • GE is unbelievably useful, with the extreme amount of regulation and fear in the general public, there really isn't any possible way to create a disaster. which btw would be next to impossible to do even if a scientist wanted to. you would need a very large group of scientists working together to create any disaster, and ppl this intelligent would be highly unlikely to want to do something like that.
