the sad thing i've noticed is that many of our ppl use individuality as an excuse to buy into western ignorance (skin bleaching), hair relaxing, etc. i feel that if we don't set a standard for black beauty-ppl will always try to be white under the guise of individuality. its an insideous problem. i hope i make some sort of sense.

of course, i agree that whatever looks good on a person is attractive. but the very idea of a black universal beauty that blacks can aspire to-one that isn't western influenced, intrigues me.

i couldn't have said it better myself. black ppl need to know themselves. u said ur idea of attainable black beauty is how a black individual wants to look. but the problem with many black women in particular is that they want to have straight hair. to "look" white. why do we want to look that way though? that's what many blacks need to address. you've said the truth-blacks looking white is unattainable. we need to find our own ideal beauty.
