Patches do stick on those type of tires when done the right way. Now if the hole is bigger than what is safe to patch, then a patch is applied and then tube put on the inside. That is to keep the hole from rubbing a hole in the tube.
That hole however hard to tell from the video if I could have patched that or not. Can't really tell the size.
Though that is a great idea on how to fix it. You did a good job with it.

just fixed a very small hole in my car tire using gorilla glue...roughly 1,000,000x stronger than rubber cement/tire patches
