I think that maybe -- maybe -- I could go for this kind of music with different (more of a traditional-folk) instrumentation (maybe keep the piano) -- I think the electric bass is a serious enjoyment-killer for me.
As is, it just sounds like ethno-kitsch. Is this just me? Why do I get that gag-reflex? I mean, I was trained as a musician when I was younger, so I'm not coming at this from out of nowhere. It's not only a problem with Italian music. The Slavs have the same problem.
