@zainaku ar-15 is like calling all tissue kleenex it just kinda stuck over the years and companies put ar15 on their guns. M4 ment carbine and m16 was the first and second version made. first was fully auto and the second was 3 burst. but m4s come in all flavors of full auto semi and burst fire. aslong as the barrel is 14.5 or shorter its considered an m4. But agian companies are selling lareger barreled guns and still calling it an m4... this is why it gets so freaking confusing!

@EvilLamas i wouldnt put a semi auto bolt into a full auto gun... thats part of the upper. and a m4 is a carbine, im sure one of the bigger name companies called their gun that but now its basicly means smaller then 14.5 inch barrel

@zainaku no. The M4 is the US military designation, for an automtiac AR-15, manufactured by colt. Bushmaster, Magpul, Blackwater, they all make automatic AR-15 lowers, and the uppers don't have anything to do with it's fire modes. The M16 was first made by Armalight anyway, under the name of ar-15.

i thought Ar-15 was the term given to civilian semi auto Colt firearms? Technically if it had auto ability *unless augmented* wouldnt it be an M-16 or M-4 / any other named police variant?
