Food prices up 2.6% in March. Gas prices close to $3.00 a gallon. Inflation is on the rise. If you are new to Survival preps, start with your food storage. Food storage is covered in my new book "The Urban Survivalist Handbook" now available at Amazon.com. Food storage can be bought at ldscatalog.org Cheack out my new blog at urbansurvivalisthandbook.blogspot.com and my website at urbansurvivalisthandbook.com

  • couple quick questions,,1. how long will that pasta you have in mylar bags last? 2. you said you have propane juat in case..Do you know the shelf life of the little propance canisters used for camping? (the kind that attach to the small bug out stoves)

  • @daveyboy126 1) as long as the mylar bags stay intact the pasta will last 20 plus years. 2) i have used a small propane canister that had sat in my shed for 10 years and it worked fine. I believe as long as the bottle is not rusted and in good shape the propane will stay unaltered for decades.

  • I have never heard of the Harvest of the West Brand foods - where did you get that at?

  • @CHEECHAKOSMONTANA My local Wal-mart has a whole isle for long term food storage and water storage.

  • I just wanna ask.. how do you preserve rice?

  • @CeLaKaZ1 Rice can be packaged the same as noodles, wheat and similar things. First get a Mylar bag and some oxygen absorbers. Then put the Mylar bag in a 5 gal bucket. Fill up the Mylar bag and throw in your oxygen absorbers and seal the Mylar bag with an iron. Put the lid on the bucket and the rice will stay good for decades.

  • 1 suggestion is to take advantage of that left wall space and put a peg board and hang ur guns on there

  • Lol the lds rock I love living in Utah everyone base long storage food

  • if it really hits the fan, you don't want to be the one guy with food, outside, cooking it in front of them.

Also food storage will simply allow you more time to adjust to any situation. It won't make you sustainable or self-sufficient.

  • Excellent idea. Thanks

  • Let me start by saying you have the right idea... Very well thought out and your food storages looks like mine for the post part. However I have to say that you have said nothing about protecting your food and family. If crap hits the fan there will be so many people that did not prep and now they will loot... Do you have means of protection? Please dont take this the wrong because I mean no disrespect. Thanks... Its like I always say. Lets all learn from each other. Joe Tactical

  • @Lexingtonprepdude True story.
