A quick Preview of UNN's latest creation. The Fixed wing Turret and Laser Designation System. This scripted system provides a workaround for ArmA's engine failure for working turrets on Plane class vehicles.

The video shows a Mockup Predator UAV, the gunner's Optic/GUI, laser designation of targets and the target tracking system.

What this means is:

1) It is now possible to have turrets on planes. Not just laser designators but potentially machine guns, canons etc. eg WWII bombers.
2) It is possible for single or dual seat aircraft to "self designate" laser guided bombs realistically.
3) A Full and practical range of UAV's are possible.

NOTES:
1) The UAV model is a very crude prototype -- yes we know it looks crap.

2) This system is in the very early stages of development and should be viewed as Work In Progress.

3) We have done some MP testing and it does work. However some bug fixes are in place.

    Will this work in Arma2? The UAV in Arma2 desperately needs the ability to lock the camera with the laser.

  • Not this version. But UNN is rewriting the entire system specifically to take advantage of ArmA2's more advanced features

  • on arma 2 you can use a command to attach it to a plane, but its unrealistc and unpractical

  • Well a lot of this just came out of trial and error. UNN and I have been messing around with OFP & ArmA engines since 2002 so between us we have a pretty good understanding of the game engines.

    The system shown above is the fusion of concepts, but the scripts are unique. UNN is a scripting genius! (Honestly I'm constantly amazed at the stuff he makes)

  • Ah right, I thought as such. Seriously though, how'd you go about making that? Did you just have a lot of knowledge in ArmA scripting? or adapt a few scripts to your own code?

  • Sorry but this wont ever work with OFP. The game engine just isnt up to it . This system is dependant on the ArmA1 and 2 engine changes.
