See how to start a Personal Footprints toe on 2 circular needles, then continue with the book (Personal Footprints for Insouciant Sock Knitters) on page 18. The smooth stockinette center is the brainchild of Judy Becker, as well as Queen Kahuna. This video takes you through the beginning, and then you'll continue on page 18 in the book.

  • can this be done with the magic loop/ 2 socks at once? Thanks for your informative videos I surely enjoy them very much.

  • @spoolhead51 Yes, just line up the two socks on one needle, have two yarn sources, and be sure not to let them go to the wrong sock!

  • Thank you Cat, for always sharing your wonderful ideas. I knit my first Simple Sock from Socks Soar on 2 Circular Needles, and I'm working through New Pathways. With toe-up socks, using Judy's Magic Cast On, it seems I never have to join my round. (sorry, I'm not that experienced...but I love learning your recipes!) Is that true? I made a little pouch to check my gauge, and it seems to work without a join...true? Thanks in advance.

  • Yes, there is no join when starting with Judy's Magic cast-on because you are automatically in the round, with a closed bottom (toe), so there is nothing to join. I'm glad you are enjoying this.

  • Good question. I use it because it lets you see individual sts well because of the changing colors, and it is nice and big so you can see well. In other words, I consider it good teaching yarn. I had a similar yarn made by Lorna's Laces which we call "Cat's Ahah!" yarn because you end up saying "Aah! Now I see!" when you use it to investigate your knitting. It's a worsted weight yarn, but similar otherwise.

  • Absolutely the clearest explanation of this process! Cat, your logical mind is a gift to knitters everywhere!

  • thank you, for your video on short rolls (wrap and turn). Your video voice is the clear and you go slow with your knitting so all can see what you are actually doing. Others knitter go too fast where one cannot gasp what going on in the knitting. thank you Cat love you.

  • Cat, you are such an inspirational artist and nurturing teacher. I am so appreciative of your response to my beginner's question. I told my husband that hearing from you was as if Valentino Rossi, the Moto GP superstar, wrote him to help him adjust the handlebar on his motorcycle. I've just started your felted indoor boots for my aunt. Hope to attend one of your workshops someday!
