After months of patient waiting, Heljan's Kestrel finally arrives on the Selby Garden Railway and is immediately put into service hauling a short rake of BR MK1's. Kestrel will have its critics no doubt but in my opinion of what I have seen so far, this is a top notch model locomotive which not only performs very well but also looks absolutely stunning. "Horns don't look right"...."Can't see through roof grilles".. Get a life - this is one very welcome machine and I'll settle for the horns not looking right and not being able to see through the roof grilles into the plastic body any day if it means we can continue to have this sort of limited issue model made available. Well done Heljan!

  • Nice one:-) well worth the wait !! Now what about Lion?? I'm really glad Heljan bit the bullet & went a head & did this model :-) Top stuff 5* Cheers.

  • Sounds like Heljan have decided that 'Lion' will be next so that's another one to look forward to. If it's up to anything like the standard of Kestrel then I for one will be well pleased.

  • What a beast!. I am buying mine tommorrow. So look out for a video of one on my garden railway.

  • Amazing isn't it? The great thing about these prototypes is that while they are slightly more expensive as well as simply stunning, you only need one so they really save you a fortune! Was looking at your vids last night. Some really nice locos and still lots more videos to go through! Don't you do anything else?

  • @digest59 okay i just got this model its very nice but i put the couplers in and i have noticed that when turning the couplers could knock off the details but i want the train to be able to pull and push passenger cars so what should i do? i dont want to remove the details from either side :( help would be appreciated.

  • very good video, I've just bought a Kestrel from Howes and there fitting it with a class 56 sound decoder before shipping it on to me. You may wonder why the sounds of a class 56, well no one knows or can remember what the real Kestrel sounded like as it was scrapped in the 1990's by the Soviet's and although it was a 4000hp Sulzer perhaps the sounds are closer to a class 56 than a class 47. A really impressive looking loco. Well done!

  • Cool, time to get saving again me thinks, cheers.
