Here is "Breakout" shown on the Mattel Electronics Aquarius computer. This game was made in Europe after Mattel had already paid Radofin to take back the marketing rights. Though Breakout is a bit of a clumsy title for the Aquarius, since it uses non-programmable character graphics, it still plays a passable game. The music is some of the best heard on the Aquarius.

Later, in the game, you'll see me use my own cheat to slow the ball down. I hold the pause and start keys down while I play. (Note that it does not help me much. ;) For some reason, when I am recording my games, I do much more poorly than otherwise. I guess I'm distracted looking at recording time, etc. Or am I just making excuses??

  • True, but the Aquarius character based graphics make it a more limiting project. The Aquarius also has a ball graphic that includes splits between two horizontal character blocks, and two vertical, and 4 corners. I would like to have seen the programmer utilize that ball, instead of the diamond shaped, single-ball-per-block ball he used. Still, it works, and that song is really catchy.

  • Judging by this video, the Aquarius might have a future in the field of chiptunes.

  • Right on then can I see your Breakout clones?

  • Making a breakout clone is like so easy.
