The video explains how to modify a web cam in order to use it for astrophotography. An illustrated guide and a pdf version can be found at http://www.technewson.com/archives/77 Feel free to ask any questions here or at the website.
Thanks for the video. It's a great help for introducing amateurs to astrophotography and for people with a low budget. I've been using this on the moon and works well. Does it work well with planetary photography?
@YoungAstronomersUK I had a similar problem but I worked out that the adapted webcam was sitting too far in the eyepiece socket of the scope. I wrapped tape around the barrel of the 'astro webca' so that it would not be able to go in to far. After a little experimenting I got the 'stop tape' just right enabling me to get a sharp focus. Also I found that a 2x barlow lens increases the focal length of the scope so that by using one there was no need for the stop tape.Hope this helps
i have recently considered astrophotography with a webcam and i used this video for the setup, and the same webcam. but when it came to a clear night the image was there but it was too out of focus for you to be able to see the image in detail. do you think it is to do with the driver or the setup and webcam itself. i used a film canister for the webcam so it can slot in the EP. do you know what could be going wrong?
