My short film from Calarts (2001). The story, animation and backgrounds are by me. My friend Crystal Chesney did the water effects animation. The little dragon girl is voiced by fellow animator Beth Sleven, and the big dragon is voiced by Corny Cole. The music is from Shawshank Redemption.

It's traditional hand drawn animation. (The backgrounds are watercolor.) The storyboards and concept took about 3 months to do (while taking other classes at school) and then the animation, backgrounds and post took about 3 months to do (mostly just working on the film, not much classes.)

  • how many frames did it take you in total?

  • @Mariohenri90 There's no way for me to know exactly as there are some holds and some things done on 1's (24 fps), but it's roughly 12-24 frames per second, do you can get a rough idea that way.

  • Toph the fish-person!

  • Not really! This film predates Avatar.

  • is this experiemental animation?

  • it's traditional character animation, drawn by hand.

  • If you don't already have a job at a studio yet, you should! If not, you would get an awesome following on YT. Don't give up on this! You could be one of the greats, even if it is as an independant. Mr. Lasseter wasn't better than this when he started!!
