@TheChiefEngineer awesome, im really eager to graduate, two years left only. I would really like to work in a foreighn country cause here in mexico, merchant navy is not so big. Any recomendatios on where to apply for a job or where to start?

@swaznat maybe look into the civilian sector. Pay is better, experience will still be gained and you will have more free time. I imagine that they have maritime schools in the U.K. like they do here in the U.S. There is a basic chain of command on civilian ships; however, ranking people show little superiority to their subordinates unless of course they need to. I worked on ships in the Louisiana oilfield but left to further my education. Overall pay was excellent and the experience was great.

ime thinking about signing up for this but my brother just came back from serving asnsaid that the majority of guys on ship that hate being on their and get messed around by P,O's and tht are the M'E's so i dunno know. anyone got any advice?

@gmileham i have signed up for marine engineering, i have a year april :( till i get in, done most of the tests, cant wait, but you dont need a degree there is just a test you need to pass to see if your capable

hi i am looking to join the engineering branch in the navy, does the navy offer holidays?. And to be a marine engineer do you need a certain degree? would be greatful if anyone could get back. thanks
