Not only do they use moving traffic as a tool to crack walnuts, they are able to locate the spot that provides maximum effectiveness and minimum risk. These creatures are smarter than a lot of people I know.

Most humans don't even wait for the traffic lights to turn red.

Our local crows wait for the bus. The bus runs over walnuts on the side of the street (often the drivers do it intentionally ) and once the bus has cleared, in come the crows for a snack :-)

I've seen a crow chase a mouse under a car stopped at a red light. Same principle as the walnut. And the fact that it maneuvered another sentient being into the correct position rather than just place an inanimate nut there makes it that much more impressive.

I've seen both ravens crws AND Magpies doing this, the raven is the smarter out of all, but the ravens mea, the magpie is the second smartest but the most docile, the crow is the 3rd smartest but is mean. Raven wins in smart, magpie wins in sweetness, crows just use us for dirty deeds. Evil little Ella's
