  • Thank You very much for your wonderful interpretation. Excuse me, theorbo tunning is the same that archilute? It is possible to play same repertory in theorba or archilute? Thank You very much.

  • I appologize for the delay, I did not visit the website for a long time. The archilute has a different tunning. The main difference is that the first two courses (or possibly one) are not lowered an octave as on the theorbo. Therefore it is hardly possible to play the same repertoir. Probably the best article on this topic on the web is Chitarrone, Theorbo and Archlute by Robert Spencer.

    Best regards,

    Aleš

  • It's worth mentioning that the theorbo was tuned without re-entrant tuning in Dresden; Weiss played on such an instrument.

  • That is right, although as far I as know, he used it only for continuo. But some players use single-strung theorbo with lute tunnig, play a regular lute reptertoir, and it sounds great (I very much recommend a website of Luciano Contini!).

  • Where dou you bought the Theorbo, please? Or anyone knows it? Thanx!

  • This theorbo was made by Czech lute-maker Jiri Cepelak. If the question comes because of the unusual rosette, it is a two-headed eagle, the coat-of-arms of the Habsburg empire. It was made after the rosette on an instrument made in the Czech lands in the time of Habsburg rule, probably for a rather officious lutenist

    Best regards,

    Ales

P.S.: Thank you all very much for your comments!

  • LOVED it, thank you for uploading. Such a beautiful piece and such a heartbreakingly beautiful sounding instrument.

  • This stands as one of my favorite songs for the chitarrone.

  • Beautiful playing.
