Just to set the record straight, the L322 RR used a BMW engine from 2002 till 2005. In 2006, after Ford's acquisition, they began using the Jag engines (notice that same year, the RR was available with a supercharger, something BMW did not have, but Jag did).
@dilaro4 Turns out you are more correct than you think, upon further research Land Rover used Ford diesel engines in the Range Rover since they started using the 3.6 TDV8 which is infact a Ford engine, the last BMW engine they used was the straight 6 3.0 TD6 which I believe they use in the 330d, 530d and 730d? Im sure you know more about BMW's than me perhaps you could clear that up. Thanks
@dilaro4 They are built in a Ford factory but arent used in any Ford vehicles so it cant be considered a Ford engine. The 2.7 TDV6 you speak of from Jaguar is a PeugotCitroen/Jaguar joint venture.
I'm fairly sure Ford do a 4.4 TDCI for their F series trucks in the US, that could be block used in the Range Rover?
@plutonia00 Jaguars especially the diesel ones in XF is coming from ford. Range rovers engine comes from BMW until the new ones 2011 were the engines are from ford. This information comes from a Land Rover car dealer.
@dilaro4 No it either has the Jaguar 5.0 supercharged v8 petrol engine or the Land Rover designed 4.4 TDV8. The only Land Rovers that currently use a Ford engine is the Defender which utilises the 2.4 TDCI engine out of a Transit van. The Freelander uses the 2.2 TD4/TDCI/HDI engine commonly used in some Fords, Peugots and Citroens and very good engine none the less.
The Discovery 3 will more than likely be using the TDV6/SDV6 from Jaguar.
