An incredibly hard film to watch. Which is precisely how it should be.

When violence is portrayed properly, it IS agony to watch.

It's a perfect example of the manic, ugly, corrupt and brutal side of humanity.

Thank you for sharing the clip. It's horrible, but honest about the cruelty and ignorance of a LOT of people. (In ANY century. The face of the violence and the excuses change, but the humanity behind it doesn't. It will always have a repulsive side.)

Edentropy, thank you very much for downloading this particular section of this bizarre, yet very wonderful film. Michael Gothard has such great screen presence and is incredibly fab in this part. To be honest, all the leading players in this film, deserve an oscar each for their fine performances. Thank you also for putting the final scene on the film on also - you're a star!!!!!

So true,so true---I've always liked this flick, because of its raw,in-your-face depiction of violence and how politics/ignorance can be used to destroy anyone who goes against the grain/or challenges the status quo,and I would have to say that in the handful of Ken Russell films I've seen, he definitely seemed to have this warped ambivalence toward sexual expression in his movies--his characters always seemed to have some major issues with it--but THE DEVILS is a masterpiece

Looks like hell just became an even more fun place to be, now that Ken is reunited with Oliver Reed and Derek Jarman. Hopefully this will get shown somewhere on TV, as it's a terrific film, although always cut.
