Macrocrania in a child could be a cause for concern because macrocrania can be an indicator of an intracranial pathology requiring imaging and surgery. This is an example of an advanced child with a benign familial macrocephaly, developing skills faster than average.
If your child has macrocephaly, please use caution and consult a specialist to rule out an intracranial pathology, especially if the macrocrania is not well-explained by inheritance and body size, and ESPECIALLY if your child has any clinical predictors of needing surgery particularly (but not limited to):
* vomiting
* labor instrumentation
* accelerated head growth: accelerated increase over time of the patients head circumference
* bulging, tense or full anterior fontanelle
* retinal hemorrhage
* abnormal neurologic findings
* cranial nerve abnormalities
* gait abnormalities
