On May 3, 2008, the San Bernardino County Democratic Central Committee (SBCDCC) hosted the first annual Congressman George E. Brown, Jr. Inaugural Awards Banquet honoring The 2008 Grassroots Volunteers of the Year.
The event was held at California State University, San Bernardino and the Featured Speaker was Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi slated to be the next Governor of California.
Veterans for Peace President Tom Swan (Ret. Marine Corp Seargent) was in attendance and participated in the event by leading the Flag Salute and later by auctioning off a Camp Casey Tee Shirt personally autographed by Cindy Sheenan. The winning bid was by Marta Brown, widow of the late Congressman George Brown who was assisted by Assembly Candidate Don Williamson and Attorney Sam Crowe who was a close personal friend of George Brown.
This video contains some clips that include the introduction of Tom Swan, followed by his leading of the Flag Salute, the auction of the Tee Shirt, and some comments by Marta Brown, the widow of the late Congressman George Brown.
