In open G: DGDGBD. Here's a quick explanation of the chords, and then a run through the song.

  • Can you explain a little about what's happening as Keith transitions into the chorus?

  • @IanLozada You mean that part at 2:20? Keith hits an open G chord and then slides up on the A string to the 4th fret, then hits the picks the open D and G strings, finishing it off by fretting the D string at the 5th fret. You get that effect of 2 G notes in a row right at the tail end of it, one with an open G string and then one on the D string at the 5th fret. He does the same little lick a few times in Before They Make Me Run.

  • hey dude wot effects u using,?????

  • @philjit1 Nothing, just straight into a Marshall 50-watt half-stack.

  • Hi, I really admire your ability to decode the complexity of KR's playing. The 'Sympathy' solo really got me excited. This one is super close. The one thing I would like to see you do differently is play less. Instead of playing straight eighth notes, one of the things I love about KR's playing is the empty spaces where there is nothing. It gives emphasis to what is - kind of like empty spaces on a canvas countered by brush strokes - gives terrific rhythm to this song.

  • @stuff2dovan There's a fellow who plays exactly like that, and there are plenty of YouTube videos of him that you might want to check out. Just do a search for "Keith Richards." You won't be disappointed.
