@thesether i want to upgrade to a single gtx 560 can i put this card in this pc?
-
I got the Gateway FX6801-03 version of this comp and I like it for the most part however my computer freezes on the starting windows screen unless I leave it off for a full minute :/
However I did upgrade the vid card to a EVGA geforce GTX 560 ti.
What I really want to upgrade now is the PSU unit, the case maybe, and get some more fans.. cause this thing runs hot for me
-
Yes. Everything gets super hot. I have 4 fans running in this thing.

@JizzTechCo Not really. If you've got a huge monitor and you want to run games at something like 1920x1200 or 1600x1200, then I'd say yes. Mainly, that is where going from say 512MB to 1GB helps. Two cards, or the x2 versions, they need more memory. Also, if you want to run 2 monitors, that also needs more mem. However, things are always prone to change and extra memory is never bad, if you can get it for only a few bucks more, it might be worth it.

@wesright I'll replace the PS, I'm looking into the 4870x2 cards already, and they look pretty nuts. Imagine running two of those babies at the same time lol, but I don't plan on doing that, I have a 16" moniter, so would extra memory be needed?
-
@JizzTechCo, I do run a lot of games at the higher resolutions on my 24" LCD so the extra memory helps. Re: crossfire, it would help a lot BUT I'd swap the PS. I got a Corsair TX750. It's a GREAT PS and it'll help BIGTIME with surges and dips in power in ways your stock cheapo PS won't. A power regulator or even a UPS would be ideal but a better PS is critical IMO. If keeping the PS, maybe look into say a 4870 x2? they're getting cheaper and won't tax PS as much as 2 cards I think(dbl-chk tho)
-
@wesright I got the 512, but why would they put a 512 in there if other people got the 1GB for the same price? I either smell rip off or it's because you bought the computer for more? Anyway, that's not why I'm replying. I'm replying because I want to know if I could get the 1GB card and replace that with my 512 one, or Crossfire it for better preformance? Would it really be worth running the 512 with the 1GB?

im trying to add a 2nd hard drive but it wont recognize it, i need help

I also bought this PC and I love it. I didn't feel good about the 450 watt (500 PEAK) power supply so I got a Corsair TX750 and this system runs everything great. Oh, added another fan to the side grill, an 80mm Antec 3 speed.
I don't see why you swapped out the 4850, unless you were one of the unlucky ones to get a 512mb model. I have the HD 4850 1GB and it runs MW2, Crysis, Just Cause 2, all on high with no problem. GTX9800 isn't an upgrade.

Alright so ive ran into a pretty big problem, i got my second card in and sli bridge about 3 weeks ago and wanted to hook them up and and get all the bugs out before i posted the nxt video, but when i hooked them up the nvidia control panel doesn't have the enable sli option, like at all, ive got the latest drivers, i already checked the bios, and did a clean install of all nvidia drivers, ive switched the cards around and the bridge in everywhich way and still no luck.

BTW i was gone for 2 weeks on vacation thats why its been no long without an update, but anyways ive called BFG tech and gateway support but no luck with either, i even took it to the Geek squad but i seemed to know more about computers than they did so that was a waist of gas...ps: they r both regonized in the device manager....all in all i think im going to have 2 just buy a new bridge and hope that works, but does anyone have any suggestions before i have to order...major thanks in advance

THANKS for the video. I was going to blow $3500 on an Alienware but I just couldn't justify the money on (mostly) a name.
Everything I've read about this machine you COMPLETELY varified with this video I.E. Power, RAM and (to some) Video could all use a boost.
I've read that the mobo will handle 1600DDR3, still, 1333DDR3 is nothing to turn away from.
I too will do a RAM upgrade, Powersupply (duh!) and one MAYBE 2 GTX 295's. I've tangled with ATI in the past. NEVER AGAIN!
