Nobody's Home: Part 13

Jocelyns POV
I decided that I needed to let Nick get involved with more guy friends since he had been hanging out with me so much, and I really needed to see Desiree and let her know what else was going on. I told Nick that he should give David a ride to school to get to know him more, and that Desiree would pick me up. I was still really nervous and worried about Stephen, and Desiree could definitely tell.

Desiree: What's wrong now?
Jocelyn: Don't worry about it.

It got quiet for a minute and I could tell she was mad.

Desiree: Jocelyn! Stop hiding things from me! You're my best friend and I need to know what's going on. Especially if it's something serious like this Stephen guy. Sometimes I think you feel I don't care.

I was surprised to hear her like this. She never really got mad that easily.

Jocelyn: Ok I understand that Desiree, but how would you like it if I was the complete opposite and dumped all my problems on you?! Then you'd feel burdened and worried just like I do!
Desiree: That's what a best friend is supposed to do and how they're supposed to feel when something happens.

I looked up and she smiled at me.

Desiree: Now, can you please tell me what else is going on?
Jocelyn: Well, Nick got into a big fight with Stephen, like huge. Stephen got really hurt and now he could be coming after any of us or have his friends do the job. He's not used to losing Desiree, and he'll do whatever it takes to win, even something ridiculous like this. I'm really scared. Not just for my life, but for any of yours.

Desiree: Come here.

She gave me a big hug and told me it was ok.

Desiree: Look, you know we're not gonna let anything happen to you. Especially Nick. I mean look what he already did for you. He's let you stay in his house, he brings you to school with him every morning, and he defended you and protected you from Stephen. Why did he fight him anyways?
Jocelyn: Something Stephen said about me I guess.
Desiree: See? Don't worry.
Jocelyn: Yes, but see it's not me I'm worried about here Des. I'm worried about all of you. I can't protect you, Nick and David all at once. What if he goes for Nicks family too?
Desiree: We'll figure all that out when the time comes ok? Let's just get to school.

We started driving and I felt a little more calm now that Desiree knew what was going on. Now she could watch out more I guess. I hated knowing something that should only involve me now involved everyone I cared about. We were driving on the street over from our school, and I recognized an unfortunately familiar car. There were 2 lanes and we were stopped at the stoplight. Both cars.
Desirees POV
I could tell there was something up when Jocelyn put her hood on and sunk into her seat a bit. I looked into the car next to us and there was a guy with 2 other guys in the backseat. I looked down at her and she was looking back at me.

Desiree: That's him?
She nodded her head.
Jocelyn: Yes, and I don't want him to see me with you. He might hurt you if he knows you know me. I want to put that off as long as possible. I don't ever want him to know you.

The guy Stephen looked over at me for a minute then he winked. Almost like he knew what was going on. Like he knew who I was and that she was with me. But how? It was impossible. I knew I had to of been just paranoid. He rolled down the window and stuck his head out.
Stephen: It's really nice to see you..Desiree. Make sure to tell Jocelyn and David I said hi. I'll give my greetings to Nick myself.

I didn't want to look at Jocelyn to draw attention so I looked straight right as the light turned green. I could see her out of the corner of my eye. Her jaw had dropped and she shivered as all our names were mentioned. How did he know everything? How was it even possible?
