In conjunction with the rededication of the Statue of Libery, following a major renovation, a Naval review was held in New York Harbor.
Navies of many foreign nations sent ships to represent them.
On the morning of July 4th BB-61 USS Iowa, with President Ronald Reagan aboard, sailed down the Hudson River past Lady Liberty.
Another ship anchored in the river fired one of her guns in salute.
The first ship seen in the Video is the USS Mount Whitney LCC/JCC 20, a Joint Command Ship.
Also shown is German Navy Training Cruiser A59 Deutschland
I am in Battery Park. As Iowa comes into view, passing the FDNY Fireboat station, note the small vessel in the foreground.
That is the USS Sequoia, at one time the Presidential Yacht.
Jimmy Carter auctioned her off in the Seventies. Just one of a series of "brilliant" moves that the imbecile made while in office.
Also, note the platform atop Iowa's No. 1 gun turret. That is where the President and other dignitaries were.

I was there that day! Thank You!

The USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20) is firing a 21 gun salute (from two 40mm cannons) to president Reagan. You can see the smoke from the cannon fire then hear the delayed sound as the Iowa nears and passes the Mount Whitney. I was standing by the saluting guns on the Mt Whitney. this is the only video I have found documenting these moments. Thanks!
