It's definetly gorey.
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (When Cicadas Cry) is about a town called Himinazawa. You could say the main character is Keichi (the boy in this AMV) but that's not always the case. Basically, it's about this town and the deaths that surround a festival in it. That's not the best description of it, but if I try to say much more I'm going to run out of characters, so I suggest you Wiki it.
