Fear and Misery of the Third Reich (or The Private Life of the Master Race) is one of Brecht's most famous plays, the first of his openly anti-Nazi works. It was first performed in 1938 and was one of the first major plays to use a style of performing Brecht called 'epic theatre'. This technique distanced the audience from the characters and was used to drive home the play's message.

It was followed by many more openly anti-Nazi plays—Brecht was a believer in the values of Marxism—and was written while Brecht was in exile in Denmark, inspired by a visit to Moscow, where he experienced the anti-Nazi movement which was gaining significance there.

In 1974, the postmodern East German dramatist Heiner Müller wrote an 'answer' to Brecht's play, entitled The Battle: Scenes from Germany (revised from a text first written in the early 1950s; first theatrical production opened on the 10th October, 1975 at the Volksbühne).[1]

  • bloody nazis

  • He educated the Europeans by murdering six million Jews. Today I wondered how something as awful as the holocaust could happen, now I don't wonder at all. Nazi prick.

  • Hitler with the famous all-seeing blue eyes was actually a separatist instead of a supremacist. Hitler won over the listeners to his ideas not by claiming superiority but thru educating europeans that jews are indeed far more clever when it comes to business, politics and banking. Therefore, unless the jews were expelled for good then the europeans would always be their financial slaves for generation after generation just like America.
