the phone number was to one of his friends. she had a list of where ever card was in the deck. when he said 2 of hearts she looked and said 7. its pretty easy to catch

The number pushed by the spectators is not the one whom he called. The person whom he called is his girl. She is having the full sequence of the pack as pack was not shuffled in front of the camera.(A performer may use a false shuffle to baffle the spectators also, so be careful.) He told the card selected so that his girl can tell where in the deck it has been positioned.
Simple, no magic but a trick!!

I like that one. Devilishly brilliant! It doesn't get any more direct than that...except...I think the spectators should deal the cards themselves; I don't think you should touch the deck at all.
Brilliant effect, though.
