NES Contra One Level Demo

This is a one level demo of Contra on the NES, made with a early beta version of a Contra editor, Red Falcon. The first level was extended from 13 to 40 screens.

Enemy AI was hacked in various ways. Soldiers and turrets shoot more bullets at a faster rate. There's also a kind of mini-boss in the middle of the level. Mortars (single and triple), which were not used in the original game except with the scuba divers (levels 3 and 5) are used extensively in this demo.

Yeah, but didn't you say it was only for mac? I use PC, so it probably wouldn't be compatable.

Yes, I program only under Mac OS X. If anyone wants to port it or make an equivalent for another OS, I'm ready to share my source code...

The way to go is to download a special patch file, of type .IPS, and use a program (usually called an IPS Patcher) to transform an original ROM into a hack. The link for the IPS file of this demo is in the movie description...

Freaking sick. If this was contra when it came out in 87, no one would have gotten past the first level. This is what hacks should be.
