TF2 Tactics: Soldier-Sentry Kills

I would have to say that if the skill level were the same the soldier and demoman are the main sentry killers. The key points for taking out a sentry with the soldier is aim, saturation fire, range, rocket jump and map knowledge. Killing the engineer by aiming at the his feet is the best way if you are firing head on.

AIM: Stand still if you have to, especially when firing from far away. Aim at the engineer if he is there, otherwise hit the sentry. If the engineer isn't paying attention or too far away, hit his sentry with 4 rockets, you can usually kill it before he can get to it.

SATURATION FIRE: This involves saturating your target with a lot of rockets. Not one at a time, but 4 at a time.

RANGE: Take advantage of the soldier's incredibly accurate and long range rockets. At long range only snipers can actually inflict critical damage on you while you're firing at a sentry.

ROCKET JUMP: Get into higher positions or positions thought unviable to fire from. Reload your rocket while in mid-air, that way when you land, you have 4 rockets.

MAP KNOWLEDGE: This is derived from experience of common sentry locations, good firing positions and alternative firing positions. A part of this is knowing how to use walls and corners to hide behind and fire from.

All of the clips has you shooting the sentry from long range, above, or while being healed. What do you do when it's just you and the sentry around the corner? Is it possible to kill the sentry before it kills you?

yes its possible, and no you shouldnt do it that way (dont take a sentry head on). there is always another way :) dont just pop out there coz ur not gonna make it lol, atleast strafe kill it if you hav to

That is because he knew that since the Engineer was dead and the Sentry was visually on fire, it only needed one more shot to kill it. This sort of thing comes from experience.

@christianmalazarte you can take it head on, you just gotta be good at whatever character you are when you go to take it out, ive done it with every class, so its not impossible and i just rand head on from about 15 metres away (thats what it seemed like in game)

@nainqx To add on to what he said, fire at the ground around the corner. If the idiot put the sentry close to the corner you'll be hurting it. If not, get a demo to help you out. His grenade launcher does wonders for that.

@nainqx if the sentry the sentry around the corner is on the same floor level as you you can always shoot the ground in front of it and kill it with splash damage

I consider direct hit as better choice of weapon for sentries and techiniacil every thing else

@myboombox2 The splash damage can hit depending on where the engy is even if aimed at the gun.

@leetalityv2 If you shoot the crit right into the sentry, no the sentry will guard it via hitboxes...

If you get spash damage, ect shooting from above then you might
