So people have been asking me about CO2 and how I do it. Knowing how to do CO2 is important if you want your plants to grow crazy. But you have to be very very careful with it. CO2 is going to lower the PH in your tank and also has the potential to kill your fish. I never run a DIY CO2 set up like what you see above without an airstone. Sure, you might remove some of the CO2 from your tank, but it is better than killing your fish. The mixture I have made above, I did without really measuring the sugar and the yeast too well. I was in a hurry. So yes there is a better recipe that you can use that is more accurate. I think my other CO2 video is better but I wanted to give some love to the people who have been asking me recently about it. I believe that fleishmans yeast does work better then the other kinds. It isn't that much more expensive then the other kinds. Use the good stuff. If you ask I can bust out some of the secret ingredients people use in their CO2. I will say that you have to be careful with your CO2 on your planted tank. It is great for your plants but could kill your fish. AND THIS IS IMPORTANT. IF YOU JUST DIRTED YOUR tank. DON"T USE CO2. Your tank will have soo much extra nutrients that if you add co2 you are asking for and algae problem. Also. The tank is actually producing CO2 with the dirt. So I don't recommend doing CO2 in a dirted tank for like 6 months. Remember people. BALANCE. If you want to learn more or show of your tank check out www.fishtanktv.com where many a fishtank lover will live chat with you and talk tanks. check out www.dustinsfishtanks.com as well for more of my personal blog.
Dustin, you can totally run CO2 without an airstone AND WITH fish, you just need to know what you are doing, and doing diy co2 will not cut it for optimum co2. Get a pressurized system and a drop checker. Start injecting CO2 and when the drop checker turns green, you have good CO2. Put the co2 system on your light timer and you will run into no problems! If you do it right, you can keep fish and have awesome plants

@Aerokings Sugar water and yeast makes alcohol, when the yeast consumes the sugar it converts it to alcohol and a bi-product of this process in co2 gas.

i just set up a 30 gallon dirt tank couple weeks ago, had some brown algae... I got some algae eating shrimp... ate that shit up within a day. I know you like balance but, the algae eating shrimp really help regulate excess algae. Also they may be a bit pricey. I bought 10 for 30 bucks.
