A gritty but uneven drama from Britain's DNA Films in which Ian Hart's young Scots crooner becomes reluctantly involved with local gangsters
Ian Hart with a perm - not your obvious romantic lead, but nonetheless the man Kelly MacDonald falls for in this Glasgow-set drama. Toni Cucozza (Hart) is a jobbing singer who tours dingy local pubs with his "strictly Sinatra" policy - that is until notorious gangster Connolly (Cuthbertson) requests an Elvis number.
Flattered by the attention, Toni accepts an invite to a casino with the local mob, where he befriends cigarette girl Irene (MacDonald). Along with Toni's keyboard player Bill (Armstrong), she encourages him in his dream of performing on television, but when an audition proves tricky, Toni's new gangster friends become more involved than he'd like.
Thus the wish-fulfillment scenario turns sour, and his dreams of stardom become a nightmare for Toni and those who care about him.
