I don't get why so much effort goes into making the background only to cover it up. Is there a purpose to it? Or was it a mistake happily covered up?

Well, TheNahellenia, I thought I was doing one thing and then my "muse" took over and did something completely different. It's all part of a process. You should try it sometime, it's fun! You never really know how it will end until you say to yourself "it's done"!
