GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION FOR TIBET
Tibetans and Supporters In Boston Demand Global Intervention Now To Save Tibetan Lives

Harvard Square "Pit" (6pm -- 8pm) as part of the Boston Tibet Vigil, which has been taking place on a weekly basis since March 14, 2008.

Tibetans and supporters are demanding global intervention in the aftermath of the 11 self-immolations since March 2011. These 11 Tibetans, including 6 who have died, are between the ages of 17 and 38. They were calling for freedom in Tibet. These acts of self-immolation are a protest against China's policies in Tibet and an outcry of help from the international community. On November 2, 2011, Tibetans and supporters all over the world stood up for Tibet and demanded global intervention against the human right atrocities being committed by the Chinese Communist Party.

Guest Speakers included ex-political prisoners Venerable Yeshe Togden la, Tsering la, and Ngawang Sangdrol la.

The latest self-immolation took place as recent as today, November 3rd, 2011. Palden Choetso (also known as Choesang), 35, a Tibetan nun from the Gaden Choeling (also called Dharkar Choeling) near Nyitso monastery in Kham Tawo region of Eastern Tibet . She died from her injuries.

The youngest out of the 11, Kalsang Wangchuk, age 17, from Kirti monastery in Ngaba, set himself on fire on October 3, 2011 near the vegetable market in Ngaba town, Northeast Tibet. He reportedly held a photograph of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and shouted, "There are no religious rights and freedom in Tibet". In response to these self-immolations, China has flooded Tibet with military troops and re-intensified patriotic re-education.

Celebrities, politicians and other prominent individuals have joined over 20,000 people in pledging to Stand Up for Tibet as part of a new campaign, "Enough!", calling for coordinated global action on behalf of Tibet.

"These acts of desperation are an outcry for help. Those of us who are lucky enough to enjoy the many basic freedoms that our governments in the free world have provided us with must stand up for Tibet by asking our leaders to put pressure on the Chinese government to change its atrocious behavior in Tibet," said Matt Zaccarino, a representative of Students for a Free Tibet.
